Game Overview

9-Five is a game meant to make the dreaded 9-5 of our day and age into an actual fun experience where you can both help and compete with your fellow coworkers. The game will require players to cooperate to ensure the convenience store, aptly named “9-Five”, runs smoothly by attending to the needs of all customers. These customers will have desires that need to be fulfilled, such as food to eat, tobacco to smoke, home supplies to purchase, or to use the bathroom, among other things. To make sure your customers leave happy, the store must be kept running, and that is where the Task List comes in. 9-Five has an AI companion, M4n4-g3R, that constantly monitors the facilities' status and continuously adds new Tasks to be completed within them. Complete Tasks to increase M4n4-g3R’s Approval Rating (AR, for short). An appropriate Approval Rating will ensure your team makes it through the day. Survive 3 days to finish a full 9-Five game. However, there is a bit of spice to this recipe: the “Employee of the Week” award and the Punishment system. By the end of the 3 days, there will be an “Employee of the Week” award. While you and your team definitely want to make it to the end of the week unscathed, you all also want this coveted prize. The “Employee of the Week” is the absolute true winner of a game of 9-Five, determined by who earns the most AR points over the 3 days. By earning this achievement, you will earn the most XP (Gold Stars) and Money (Coupons) rewards in the match, and you could also earn cosmetics. To gain AR points, it’s simple: do Tasks, attend to any customer needs, and help your peers in whatever Task they are on. Do know, though, that any help you provide won’t be as rewarding as for the one who started it. This is where the game's competitive edge emerges. The whole game, you need to move fast and steady to both reach each Task in time and show M4n4-g3R your initiative while doing it correctly. What balances all of this further is the Punishment System. Any time M4n4-g3R sees you fail a Task, she will punish you. Obviously, a hit to your Approval Rating will ensue. However, there are…other, more physical punishments. Including stuff like a memo lecture (stuck on the M4n4-g3R’s mainframe room as she lectures to you about your mistakes, but can be liberated early by any employee by sacrificing the Major Approval result), sanctioned beatings (a Punishment Task that requires you and your team to beat the shit out of a punished player), forced work companionship (leashed to another player for some time and help them with Tasks), and more!. Through all of these mechanics and challenges, 9-Five puts its players in a sandbox where cooperation is the key to survival, but competition is the key to victory.
